Update to WISC 2020 Participants regarding COVID-19

Dear participant of WISC’s 6th Global International Studies Conference,

Following our message from 14 March 2020, and in view of the pandemic’s worldwide impact and the uncertainty surrounding the coming months, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone WISC’s 6th Global International Studies Conference in Buenos Aires that was supposed to take place on July 15-17, 2020.

In close cooperation with the local organizers in Buenos Aires, it was agreed that WISC’s 6th Global International Studies Conference will take place at UCA in Buenos Aires on June 30-July 2, 2021 (Wednesday-Friday). Our fabulous location remains unchanged, and we hope to keep as much as we can of the current exciting program!

For that, we sincerely hope you will be able to join us in July 2021. Our program will include at least 35 thematic Sections, approximately 250 paper panels and roundtables, and around 1.000 prospective participants from seventy countries around the world! We know that we are living through very uncertain times, so setting the date well in advance is meant as a sign of confidence on our part that we will return to some type of normalcy, hopefully sooner rather than later.

If you have already registered and paid for the Conference, you can decide between now and May 2021 whether you would like to keep your registration and payment in place for the July 2021 Conference, or whether you would prefer to have your payment reimbursed. In the latter case, we have set in motion a reimbursement mechanism and we will ask you to inform us about a possible intention to get a reimbursement by e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and by claiming your refund directly through the Paypal account you used for the initial payment. Registration for the Conference will open again in February 2021 with the same unchanged early-bird fees. As for the travel grants awarded to prospective participants in Buenos Aires 2020, these will be honoured in 2021, too.

We know that July 2021 looks like an eternity right now, but we would be grateful if you could notify the Program Committee at This email address is being protected from spambots. This would give Section Chairs—who have played a vital role and offered their uninterested work and cooperation—and ourselves time to adjust your status in the system (the ConfTool website) and plan accordingly.

After a round of consultations with the current Section Chairs in the coming months, we might open an additional call for Sections in July until October 2020, followed by an additional Call for Papers from October to December 2020. New panels and papers discussing the implications of this pandemic for IR and international politics, and humankind in general, will, of course, be possible. We remain ever more committed to turn the postponed meeting of WISC’s 6th Global International Studies Conference into a global forum to exchange views on our common destiny, the true meaning of the ‘international’ around the world, with multiple voices and alternative orders that might emerge in the months and years to come.

We wish you all good health and high spirits, keep sane and realistically optimistic in these challenging coronavirus times.

April 9th, 2020

Sincerely,
